Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : A question for early intervention people?

If you have a child that is very active and will not engage for a big portion of the session ( 2 years) how much do “force” him to participate? My philosopy has always been that therapy should be fun and to slowly worked on the time that the child is engaged but at the same time I want the sessions to be productive. Ideas for increasing time engaged, reducing wandering? I was told the speech therapist just forces him to do it by putting him in her lap and kind of carolling him that way but that he crys the entire session?

Answer by Shanika Burney
You can’t force him to do anything, but you can make whatever you want him to do interesting and make him want to join. Maybe you can engage him while he’s up, then slowly interest him in sitting. If all else fails take the lesson to wherever he is.

Answer by chiquitamonkeyyyyy
I try not to force the issue. Have another helper with you who can let them sit with them. Also, sometimes giving them a tiny ball of play-dough in their hand helps. Tell them it’s their special thing as long as they don’t show the other kids. You would be surprised how great this works! Make sure that you are only requiring a short attention span from them. Start short and add to it. Sometimes you have to adjust your lesson if they are too squirrely.

Children are best able to learn when they are not experience anxiety and frustration. If the child is being forced to do something, all he is going to learn is the various ways of resisting the learning, which eventually develops to challenging behaviours/behaviours of concern. Try to engage him in activities by incorporating things that he is motivated in. Eg if he has a favourite cartoon character, sport or hobby, find ways of incorporating these into the lesson. What generally helps to improve focus is to start of the day with heavy work exercises. So get the children play a game that involves carrying a heavy item, doing wheelbarrow walks, bear walks and crab walks. Eg an obstacle course. This has a calming effect on the central nervous system, in that it helps the central nervous system to organise sensory information, which in turn improves focus. I would recommend that the child also sees an occupational therapist, as there are many other potential reasons for him to be crying.

I agree with you. I think the speech therapist is inappropriate in the way she tries to engage the child. A 2 year old generally has a short attention span anyway. I would gradually try to engage the child in remaining on task for a slightly longer amount of time each session. I would also look for things that seem to interest him and try to base some of his activities on his interests to help him focus a little longer. If a group learning activity is going on and the child losses interest, wander briefly with him then try to draw him back into the group activity. Forcing the child to sit and cry is disruptive to the entire group and certainly doesn’t benefit him. He is frustrated, confused and not learning anything.

I am not an early intervention specialist. I’m just speaking from many years of experience working with young children.

better decisions than you would normally make. They do give you “insight”…Now i would not go around telling people that I do go to psychic once a year…..But,this site is fabulous because no one knows who you are…They can tell you stuff about someone that you would NEVER know. That i feel is extremely helpful! What is your opinion?…NAY SAYERS please do not respond. Thanks

Psychics are frauds. You can vent anywhere on the internet but that doesn’t mean the internet always tells the truth or can read minds.

A lot of cynical answers… Is this the site you go to: ??

That’s the one I go to. She’s excellent and you talking about them giving you “insight” is exactly what she does. I think it’s smart to gather any kind of advice or information before making a decision so from that point of view how can getting information from a psychic hurt? It’s just another option for you to consider. No one makes every decision in their life completely based on what a psychic thinks. But, sometimes we need a little help to see the situation more clearly. So, why not ask? I don’t see the harm in it & the site I go to has a wonderful woman who has always been accurate and I feel very comfortable sending my friends and family to her. She’s not a scam artist (who scams people out of $ 5 to $ 10?? C’mon–it’s not worth her time!).

I really don’t think that the bible says psychics aren’t good for us. I’ve studied many religions, in detail, and the christian bible in particular is filled with instances where God has spoken to people through visions & filled with prophets & others with extra senses and extra information–these people have been responsible for passing this, sometimes very important, information onto others. “Psychic” or intuitive or vision abilities were a huge part of early religion and of making early religion as successful as it is.

I don’t think we should place judgement on everything. Somethings don’t have to be good or bad–they just are. Actual, real psychics are just people that have more information than most people about a situation. It’s like another sense that they’re using. (That website I mentioned above has a page that explains how this psychic does what she does/knows what she knows. There’s a youtube video link to that is helpful.)

Answer by Lightning From the East
The Bible strongly condemns spiritism, mediums, the occult, and psychics (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). Horoscopes, tarot cards, astrology, fortune tellers, palm readings, and séances fall into this category as well. These practices are based on the concept that there are gods, spirits, or deceased loved ones that can give advice and guidance. These “gods” or “spirits” are demons (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). The Bible gives us no reason to believe that deceased loved ones can contact us. If they were believers, they are in heaven enjoying the most wonderful place imaginable in fellowship with a loving God. If they were not believers, they are in hell, suffering the un-ending torment for rejecting God’s love and rebelling against Him.

So, if our loved ones cannot contact us, how do mediums, spiritists, and psychics get such accurate information? There have been many exposures of psychics as frauds. It has been proven that psychics can gain immense amounts of information on someone through ordinary means. Sometimes by just using a telephone number through caller ID and an internet search, a psychic can get names, addresses, dates of birth, dates of marriage, family members, etc. However, it is undeniable that psychics sometimes know things that should be impossible for them to know. Where do they get this information? The answer is from Satan and his demons. “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Acts 16:16-18 describes a fortune teller who was able to predict the future until the apostle Paul rebuked a demon out of her.

Satan pretends to be kind and helpful. He tries to appear as something good. Satan and his demons will give a psychic information about a person in order to get that person hooked into spiritism, something that God forbids. It appears innocent at first, but soon people can find themselves addicted to psychics and unwittingly allow Satan to control and destroy their lives. Peter proclaimed, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). In some cases, the psychics themselves are deceived, not knowing the true source of the information they receive. Whatever the case and wherever the source of the information, nothing connected to spiritism, witchcraft, or astrology is a godly means of discovering information. How does God want us to discern His will for our life? God’s plan is simple, yet powerful and effective: study the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and pray for wisdom (James 1:5).

Accurate Online Psychic Readings and Tarrot Chat

Written by Goddessmother

In a reading you may want to ask about:

A loved one who has passed (I am often visited by spirits and angels) “Can you tell me if my Auntie is with us?” Does my mother have a message for me?”
Love and romance. “Does my boyfriend really love me?” ” Will we marry?” “When will I meet my true Love?”
Family. “I have trouble getting along with my mother-in-law. Why doesn’t she like me?” My daughter is struggling right now.”
Career. “Will I change jobs soon?” “Will I get the promotion?”
Pets: “Where is my lost cat?” “Why does my dog look so sad?”
Past lives: “Did I know my boyfriend in a past life?”
Guides: “Tell me about my guides.”
Health. “How can I get more energy?” “Why am I so stressed out?”
Spiritual growth. “I think I am gifted. Do you see these gifts?” “Why am I at a stuck point?”

General advice comes as naturally to me as answers to specific questions.
